Arab countries respond to COVID-19

As per WHO’s Situation Report of 24 March 2020, 19 countries in the Arab region have reported COVID-19 cases. Those countries are Algeria, Bahrain, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates. Only Yemen has no reported cases.Explore

Responding to Crisis in the region

UNDP has been at the forefront of new initiatives, working with national and international partners and across the UN System to bring about a shift in approach towards building resilience by addressing the humanitarian and development aspects of the crisis at the same time, in a coordinated fashion, through sustainable and nationally-led responses.

Who we are

The Regional Bureau for Arab States (RBAS) based in New York serves as the headquarters for UNDP regional programmes and country offices in 17 Arab countries, with the 18th located in the occupied Palestinian territory. The Bureau is headed by Dr. Mourad Wahba, United Nations Assistant Secretary General and UNDP Assistant Administrator and Regional Director.
